Responsibilities of the Treasurer (Tax Department)
The Treasurer is responsible for:
  • Apportioning all tax dollars and sending to appropriate school, city, or other taxing body
  • Collecting all property & mobile home taxes, special assessments, and drainage tax
  • Collecting miscellaneous revenue from other offices
  • Holding the annual Tax Sale
  • Investing all county funds
  • Issuing tax clearances on mobile homes
  • Keeping accurate record of all monies received and disbursed
  • Processing Iowa Property Tax Credit Claims for persons with disabilities or senior citizen

Dates to Remember
  • January 15 - Iowa property tax credit claim forms available
  • March 1 - Second half of property taxes due
  • March 31 - Last day to pay second half of property taxes without penalty. Mail in payments must be postmarked by March 31
  • June 1 - Iowa property tax credit claim form due
  • Third Monday in June - The annual tax sale
  • September 1 - First half of property taxes due
  • September 30 - Last day to pay first half of property taxes without penalty - mail in payments must be postmarked by September 30
